Criticisms of PRINCE2

The fast growing popularity of the project management training system, PRINCE2, has resulted in a number of criticisms of the method.

One common complaint is that it is based largely on theory, thus ignoring the reality of what managers go through on a day to day basis. Its strong emphasis on assertiveness training and time consuming processes seem to be unnecessary when dealing with projects on a small scale, while the relatively high costs of attending PRINCE2 training courses and attaining accreditation is regularly debated upon.

It has also been argued in various cases that being based largely upon theory and hypothesis, the actual implementation of this system would not stand up to tests in the real world of business with its complexity of politics and uncertainty. There have also been many examples cited by these critics in the numerous cases that have been abandoned or failed to progress as expected under the application of this system. Ultimately, it is up to the organization to decide if PRINCE2 business training courses are a good fit for them – but there’s no doubting the popularity of training courses UK at present and PRINCE2 is a key reason for that.
